Airport Cluster Finland's first Annual Seminar was arranged at Hilton Helsinki-Vantaa Airport Hotel May 27th 2010.

All together at the seminar there were thirteen presentations covering services, technologies and solutions from aviation and airport related companies. Seminar attracted nearly 70 participants from Finland, Denmark, Czech Rep., Belarus, Germany, Norway, UK, Russia and France. This enabled effective international networking and change of innovative ideas.

First four presentations covered various maintenance related topics from weather prediction to snow removal. Vaisala presented their weather observing systems and solutions. Global market leader’s AWOS systems are FAA approved and can be found almost at any airport. Lately occurred Icelandic volcanic eruption raised questions towards Vaisala if there are any ways to measure ash quantity in the air as well as if they were to develop equipment for weather monitoring.

Kemira, the global market leader for de-icing chemicals stated that environmental issues are crucial part of chemical research and development. As a known water expert Kemira’s products are extremely environment friendly compared to previously used de-icing chemicals such as urea. Lots of airports are located above ground water reserves and in addition this has caused the demand for biodegradation of chemicals.

In the afternoon session a convenient compatibility between Rapiscan and Teleste was found. Network solutions specialized Teleste and security company Rapiscan could combine Rapiscan’s MetorNet to Teleste’s products and gain cost savings and simplicity to clients. Surveillance and security go hand in hand at airports and this is great example of innovative ideas and contacts brought together at the seminar.

Exel composites presentation illustrated a great example of co-operation needed in modern business. Exel’s lighting masts combined with those of Idman lighting and Efla’s safe connectors and transformers create a effective, reliable and safe structures used in hundreds of airports globally.
